Team Shenanigans on Runner of a Certain Age Podcast

Runner of a Certain Age Podcast feat Team ShenanigansBrittany and I were thrilled to have been invited a couple of weeks ago to record an episode of the Runner of a Certain Age Podcast to talk about Team Shenanigans. That episode just went live, so if you’re interested in hearing a little about how Team Shenanigans came to be, and how you can put the fun in your run, you’ll want to be sure to check it out. Just click the Runner of a Certain Age (feat. Team Shenanigans) logo to the right, or visit roacapod.wordpress.com.

Brittany and I met John Thompson, the host of Runner of a Certain Age Podcast, as members of the Mickey Milers Running Team. It was my first appearance, but Brittany had already been a guest on the podcast several times in the past:

Episode 33 – The It’s My Party Edition (recap of Rock n Roll DC)
Episode 26 – The I Kind of Like The Last Pound Edition (losing weight while marathon training)
Episode 21 – The Cue the “Rocky” Music Edition (recap of Rock n Roll Philly)
Episode 19 – The Endless Summer Edition (recap of Rock n Roll Virginia Beach)

John has been a first-hand observer of the kind of fun Team Shenanigans has when we run, both at runDisney events, like the 2015 Walt Disney World Half Marathon, and at other events like the Rock n Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon.

John is a 50-something runner who started the Runner of a Certain Age podcast in 2013 to begin a conversation about running distance races as we grow older. Before he started running in 2012, he had never been interested in running at all, let alone running marathons or completing the Dopey Challenge, which he did in January. We’re thrilled that John will be joining Team Shenanigans as a Featured Writer.

  1. First I can’t wait to read John’s stuff.

Second that podcast gave me a new perspective. It reminded me to just enjoy the moment. For the longest time my training goals have focused on running just to keep up with friends in a race. I have been stressing myself out with that idea. Come race day I am so focused on just keeping up that I have been ignoring the the reason why I run with people in the first place, to have fun. I am going to continue to train to keep up but for Rock N’ Roll Virginia Beach I am taking a new approach. Race morning I am just going to enjoy being around my fellow Team Shenanigan teammates. I’ll run with them as long as I can and be grateful for the time enjoying every second of it. If I can’t keep up I’ll drop back making my own shenanigans when the opportunity presents itself, and I’ll cheer on anyone struggling around me. I won’t stress anymore about how long I can keep up, I’ll just enjoy the moment for what it is.
